Jayson “Jay” Wilson, 59, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at his residence. His death has left so many hearts shattered and broken, especially his family, friends and his students. He will be certainly missed by all who knew and loved him.

About Jayson Wilson

The longtime coach, teacher, and friend of the middle school is being mourned by the community. Some students have recounted his impact on their lives, and how he always looked out for each and everyone of them like their personal Guardian. This quality is one that is very rare to find among certain teachers and coaches as they frequently faced with their own life challenges.

His battle with Cancer

Coach Jay Wilson, 59, lost his battle with Stage IV pancreatic cancer on May 21. He has never allowed the state of his health affect how he related and treated his students. He would always speak to them with kind and loving words as if he had no problem of his.

Since Veterans Memorial Middle School first opened its doors in 2007, Wilson has worked there as a teacher and coach.

His Legacy

Wilson received recognition as the Teacher of the Year at Veterans Memorial Middle School in May. This year, the school honored him by naming the basketball court in his honor.

In his spare time, he also coached.

Funeral services are scheduled to take place at Britt David Baptist Church on Friday, May 24, at 2:00 p.m., according to McMullen Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family at McMullen Funeral Home on Thursday, May 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
