Illinois State Police reported that three school buses were involved in an accident on I-55 on Tuesday morning.
According to authorities, the multi-vehicle collision occurred at milepost 246 on I-55 in Grundy County at around 8:35 a.m. To aid with the transfer, more school buses were dispatched to the area. According to authorities, the move took place at the Loves Truck Stop on the east side of I-55.
There were reports of minor injuries. If students were aboard the buses when they crashed was not immediately apparent. At 9:45 a.m. Chopper 7 flew over the area and captured what seemed to be personnel and kids getting off the busses on the Smith Bridge.
Passengers were removed from the busses and brought to the Loves Truck stop about 10:30 a.m. The school buses were being moved off the Smith Bridge on I-55 by tow vehicles.
According to authorities, on Tuesday morning, the right lane of I-55 was briefly stopped on the bridge, causing traffic to back up for many miles.
